Election Results

Counting of votes for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections commenced at 8 AM on November 23, 2024, with initial trends indicating a strong performance by the BJP-led alliances in both states. The elections, held on November 20, saw Maharashtra voting for all 288 seats and Jharkhand for its 81 seats, marking a crucial moment in Indian politics as both ruling and opposition parties sought to secure their positions.

Maharashtra Election Results

In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), is projected to retain power. Early trends show Mahayuti leading with estimates suggesting they could secure between 137 to 157 seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Congress ,Shiv Sena(UBT) and the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP, is expected to win between 126 to 147 seats. The majority mark stands at 145 seats.

Key candidates in this election included Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from the Mahayuti alliance, alongside prominent figures like Aaditya Thackeray from the MVA. The election was particularly significant as it was the first since the split of Shiv Sena into rival factions, which added complexity to the political landscape.

 Jharkhand Election Results

In Jharkhand, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is also showing promising results against the incumbent Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance. Early trends indicate that the NDA could win approximately 45 to 50 seats, while the JMM-led coalition is projected to secure about 35 to 38 seats. This election is critical for JMM Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who faces a significant challenge following his earlier controversies.

The NDA's strategy involves a coalition with regional parties like the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) and Janata Dal (United), aiming to capitalize on discontent with the current government. The competition remains fierce, with some exit polls suggesting a potential hung assembly in Jharkhand, reflecting a divided electorate.

 Public Sentiment and Security Measures

As counting progresses, public sentiment is mixed; while BJP supporters are optimistic about their party's performance, opposition leaders express confidence in their ability to challenge the predictions. Ajay Rai from Congress dismissed exit poll forecasts, asserting that MVA would prevail in Maharashtra and that INDIA alliance would succeed in Jharkhand.

In anticipation of large gatherings at counting centers, Mumbai police have imposed restrictions on public assemblies near these locations to maintain order during this critical electoral event.

Overall, as results continue to unfold throughout the day, both Maharashtra and Jharkhand are poised for significant political shifts that could reshape their governance structures for years to come.
